Electrophoretic Transfer to Nitrocellulose Membranes

(Protocol summary only for purposes of this preview site)

Proteins can be transferred to nitrocellulose membranes, and then the nitrocellulose can be processed for injection. This method is simple, retains the high resolution of the gel, and allows very precise excision of the relevant polypeptide. The antibody response varies with each particular antigen. In some cases, the technique works very well, and in other cases, little or no response is seen. This protocol was adapted from Knudsen (1985) and Diano et al. (1987).
